The Meadow Mushrooms Waterways Masters scholarship at the University of Canterbury (closing 30 November)

Applications are invited for a scholarship supporting full-time thesis research in Part II of the MSc in Water Science and Management at the University of Canterbury, starting in March 2027. The scholarship is funded through a charitable donation from Meadow Mushrooms.

Research opportunity:

Develop a research project in surface water or groundwater hydrology, cryospheric processes or fluvial geomorphology. We welcome topics within these fields and those connecting them, including:

  • Catchment hydrology, water storage and the response of river flows to climate change;

  • Snow, glaciers and other cryospheric processes and their influence on downstream water availability;

  • River morphology, sediment transport and channel change, including applications of remote sensing;

  • Groundwater dynamics, river–aquifer exchange and hydrological connectivity,

The precise methods and topic will be developed with the successful applicant. The project will be supervised by a member of academic staff within the Waterways Centre at UC.  See http://www.waterways.ac.nz for further information on staff research interests.

A full description of the scholarship is available here. Applications close 30 November 2026.
